The purpose of the present study was to analyze the relationships between resilience and Big Five personality traits in an effort to explain contributing factors to happiness. We found a statistically significant relationship between personality and resilience, particularly between neuroticism and emotional reactivity. By examining the relationships among happiness, personality, and resilience, we highlight how a cultural phenomenon can inform our understanding of cultures typically viewed as "happier" than others.
