The American Educational Research Association (2006) and American Psychological Association (2010) published standards for reporting on research. We analyzed the transparency of reporting in 43 articles that assessed alphabet knowledge (AK) using researcher-developed measures. The quality of reporting was not very high, with an average of 65% of the investigated elements reported. The reporting quality was not related to year or journal type published but was to the quality of the journal. We believe this analysis should be a call to action for authors, editors, and reviewers to uphold a high level of rigor and use the AERA and APA standards when they write up or publish research.
