Using ethnographic methods during a design-based implementation research, this study illustrates a process for leveraging teacher knowledge and local expertise in large-scale pedagogical designs to support English learners in science classrooms. Its major contribution is a case study of how teacher expertise can be foregrounded to continually improve research.
