This paper contextualizes the works of Brazilian critical educator Paulo Freire through the deterritorilizing language offered by Deleuze. Reading Freire through a Deleuzian lens helps to engender new flows and spaces of resistance within the critical pedagogy discourse. It also unpacks the nomadic quality of Freire’s texts and affords a space that urges educators to seek alternative ways of becoming. The middle space where Freire and Deleuze meet before going off in different directions opens up spaces for rethinking subjectivity. In this context, Freirean nomad-learners can stand as reprieves to restrictive and linear notions of identity as they embody qualities such as storyteller, transformer, resister, improviser, and compassionate being.
