Evaluation of the Student Impact of the Association of College and University Educators Course in Effective Teaching at Delta State University

Mon, April 8, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

College faculty, while experts in their fields and in research, are not always trained in pedagogy, and little research connects faculty development programs to student outcomes. This evaluation focuses on the impact of the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) course in effective teaching on students at Delta State University during the 2017-2018 academic year. Course sections taught by ACUE faculty had higher success rates and lower DFW rates compared to course sections taught by matched faculty. In addition, students of ACUE faculty in the spring 2018 semester reported higher growth mindset compared to students of the same faculty in the fall 2017 semester. Implications and directions for future research are discussed.
