This qualitative case study explores the impact of current perceptions of the terms innovation and innovative practices on classroom application of instructional technology in six 4th and 5th grade classrooms in three public schools. Semi-structured interviews with teachers, principals, and parents along with classroom observation and artifacts examine how interpretations of these terms can lead to recognizable and meaningful learning opportunities for students in each school. Deep descriptions of the contexts of each school provide the background for drawing meaning from the data, and the analysis suggest that whether or not teachers believe they are supported in taking risks along with trustful relationships and strong school vision are more important for technology diffusion.
