Poster #4 - Creating Thinking Club as a Space for Expression: The Enacted Practice of Philosophy for Children

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore the participants’ perception of a Philosophy for Children (P4C) project in which the researchers served as active participants. The researchers seek to understand how the enactment of the Philosophy for Children project may have varied from the intentions of the program and the intentions of the team. Through interviews with all participants, video transcriptions of sessions, and textual analysis of prominent discourse, the analysis reveals similarities and differences in the intended and enacted practices. The analysis of the data points revealed conflict in the perceived association with the community, a variation of power distributions, and an attempt towards critical thinking practices as encouraged by P4C procedures.
