Abstract

The purpose of the current study is to examine the perceptions of public elementary school principals and parents of elementary school students with autism on the knowledge, skills, and family-professional partnerships principals have in order to provide appropriate IEPs, programs, and services for students with autism. Additionally, this study aims to examine the relationship between the perceptions of principals and parents to determine if the interpretations are similar. Eighteen school principals and sixty-six parents participated the study. Multiple regressions and paired sample t-tests revealed that there are relationships yet differences in perceptions between principals and parents on knowledge, skills, and family-professional partnerships. Further research is recommended in the special education areas to enhance service to students with special needs.
