Abstract

This session reviews the ten-year collaborative journey of three educational scholars who have devoted their careers to refining and extending their roles in the fight for justice for all in education. Through research, conversation, practice, and narrative writing, each has individually, and then collectively explored the challenges of obtaining an equitable public education system. Learning environments reflect stakeholders’ perceptions of society and the purpose of education (Sleeter, 2008). In this paper, these scholars provide a guide for critical self-excavation to assist educators in understanding how personal beliefs impact treatment of students, professional behavior, and pedagogical decisions. Their goal is to support like-minded scholars and teacher educators wanting all to prosper through meaningful culturally appreciative education.
