Poster #8 - Identity, Experiences, and Training Needs in Higher Education: Testimonials From Mexican Teachers

Sat, April 6, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

The study presents the results of eight focus groups carried out with Mexican teachers of baccalaurate and higher education at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City. The goal of the study was to explore the perceptions of their training as teachers, as well as their expectations from a planned institutional Faculty Development Center. Discourse analysis was performed through the identification of thematic meanings contained in teacher narratives. The results were grouped in three categories: identity, experiences and training needs. The findings will help guide the faculty development interventions and integrate them within a framework of continuing professional development for teachers locally and nationally.
