Innovative Leadership Within a Learning Community: Digital Principal Professional Development

Sun, April 7, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall G

Abstract

This study examined the leadership insights of nationally-recognized “digital principals” who offer stark examples of the AERA sub-theme of “addressing the marginalization of the empirical research and knowledge of our field to ensure that it informs the development of professionals and their practice.” Given the recent emphasis on accountability, a focus on the innovative, collaborative principal provides a re-imagined context for inquiry and practice. By researching leaders who are engaged in this work, and by re-conceptualizing the way we prepare and support our educators in the field, we too can ensure students are equipped to learn and lead. The findings from this study of digital principals will offer examples and strategies to re-conceptualize leadership preparation and support in the field.
