While mentoring has become increasingly popular for providing adolescents with support and guidance, there is limited research on the influence of mentoring and the successful transition to college. We specifically focus on impacts of a formal mentoring model on teacher-mentors as they implement this model with high school seniors preparing for college. The influence of these mentoring practices on students is examined. Semi-structured interviews were designed for in-depth inquiry into teacher-mentor and student perspectives. Results highlight the need for supporting important adults in schools as they carry out mentoring practices, and work to meet the academic, social, and personal needs of diverse students along with shaping their path towards college readiness and success.
