Going Along With Trans, Queer, and Genderqueer Youth: City Movements and "Worlding" Knowledges

Mon, April 8, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Mezzanine, Chestnut West

Abstract

The objective of this paper seeks to unpack the quality of that which gets counted as “experience” for TGQ youth. Often, research (as well as political, media, and social attention) focuses on the times and spaces in TGQ youth’s lives that stand out as remarkable, whether they be moments of celebration or, oppositely, moments of abjection. By thinking critically about the ways in which TGQ youth are viewed in, this study suggests adaptation of apparatuses of viewing that better account for the everyday ways in which youth articulate their understandings about themselves and the worlds through which they move.
