Developing Community Partnerships Through Research to Define Community Well-Being From a Diné-Centered Perspective With Three Navajo Communities in New Mexico

Tue, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 704

Abstract

By creating safe spaces for community dialogue and praxis, a community driven research design with a focus on cultural sustainability and community healing can resonate with a community’s history and leverage their community cultural wealth. This mixed-method, community-based participatory research study uses Indigenous research methodology to create a community-university research partnership with the goal of building community capacity to reduce educational and health disparities through research interventions. The aims of this research project include creating a community advisory research team who will draw upon their community strengths to engage community members to address critical issues of community identity, ecological and cultural sustainability, political sovereignty, cultural self-determination, social and economic justice, and strategic planning in Indigenous communities.
