The research on partnerships between organizations rarely attends to or address the disparities in the level of benefits that each organization accrues. Though some partnerships form with the intention to benefit all parties involved, it may not always be the case. Symbiotic organizational relationships (SOR) emerged from a study in New York City that looked at the forced partnership between alternative certification programs, specifically Teach For America (TFA) and conventional education schools teacher preparation. SOR helped to understand the disparities that occurred when the conventional education schools were forced to partner with alternative teacher programs. This research is qualitative in nature based upon analysis of relevant documents and interview data.
