Abstract

This paper shares one thematic outcome of a rich ethnography in a site for food justice education. I used an ecojustice lens, derived from the intersectional frameworks of citizenship education, science education and social ecology, to situate myself as a researcher within a community-based organization in a large urban centre in Canada. Using the tools of ethnography from a critical perspective, I gathered field notes, interviews and various documents from the organization as a participant observer. The data was analyzed using the tools posited by ecojustice education, being critical anti-race practice and discourse analysis, revealing and addressing oppressions. Analysis revealed that institutional structures created opportunities and challenges for youth participants in an after school food justice education program.
