Sat, April 6, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

We examine the mathematics professional development goals of administrators and teachers in two middle schools in California in order to evaluate the level of coherence among both groups. Coherence, which explains the importance of consistency among teachers and administrators in professional development, is important because it serves as an umbrella over other key components of effective professional development and influences their success. Through interviews with district administrators and mathematics teachers, this study identifies two major findings when evaluating the level of coherence between these two groups. By situating our inquiry through a framework for effective professional development, we illuminate the importance of coherence among administrators and mathematics teachers.
