The Illusion of Inclusivity on Campus: Poetic Narratives of Muslim Hijabi Teachers

Sat, April 6, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Second Floor, Provincial Ballroom South

Abstract

Considering the current political climate and the terrorist attacks associated with few Muslims around the world, being Muslim female in the USA is challenging. While our religious identity is visible by our Islamic attire, we found ourselves in the frontlines fighting against hearted, stereotypes, bigotry and racism towards Muslims. Therefore, in this paper, we present our experiences of living a non-white existence when teaching at a white institution in higher education in the US through poetic ethnography.
