Abstract

The purpose of this exploratory case study is to investigate college students’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding issues related to food waste, including personal food waste habits, understanding and use of date labels, and views on dumpster diving. Sixty-six participants completed an online, 30 question pre-test, viewed a short educational video intervention, and then finished with 13-question post test. Results revealed that despite relatively positive food waste behaviors, the participants held misconceptions regarding date labels. However, after the video intervention, participants improved their knowledge and intended food waste reduction behaviors.
