This paper describes recent innovations in testing the accuracy of the telemetry structure of a beta version of an educational digital resource for Twin Cities PBS. It describes new data collection and analysis methods for understanding the activities of young students as they interact with educational digital resources, including the use of classroom observation, video screen capture, telemetry log data and digital artifacts produced by a digital resource. Telemetry, or game analytics, refers to the design and logging of user interactions and events in an application, game or other digital resource. Well-designed and accurate telemetry can enhance the effectiveness of learning games and other resources by producing data that can provide information about a user’s progress, struggle, and dispositions.
