Poster #33 - A Collective Case Study of How Teacher Candidates Modify Lessons and Co-Teach in Lesson Studies

Mon, April 8, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

This collective case study investigates changes in teacher candidates’ (TCs) modifications to lesson plans during cycles of lesson study and their perceptions of co-teaching experiences.
Findings indicate that TCs’ revisions to lessons plans are differential depending on the context. TCs across the cases commented on the value of feedback from instructors and mentors (when available). Teacher candidates indicated the lesson study process was valuable and co-teaching within lesson study allowed for them to develop their collaboration skills and improve instruction. Teacher educators should consider lesson study as a tool to engage TCs in the process of learning to meet K-12 students needs and to develop collaboration skills.
