Abstract

Innovations in the analytical techniques employed in mixed methods research designs have provided opportunities for researchers to engage with their data in new and unique ways. Formative joint displays exemplify this point as they present opportunities for interplay between qualitative and quantitative data in a manner that encourages researchers to examine their data through a renewed lens. This paper aims to explore the use of formative joint display as second stage of analysis in a youth acculturation study. Findings that emerged from this analysis highlight the potential for joint displays with a formative purpose to increase insight in mixed methods studies with divergent qualitative and quantitative findings.
