Global Leadership at International Branch Campuses in China: From Foreign Faculty Members' Perspectives

Abstract

This qualitative, phenomenological study guided by Moustakas’ framework (1994) sought to understand foreign faculty members’ lived experiences regarding their perception of leadership at International Branch Campuses (IBCs) in China. IBCs in this study were co-established by American universities and their partner universities in China. This study interviewed 14 purposefully-selected participants. The central research question that guided this study is: How do foreign faculty members describe the role of leaders at IBCs in China? The central question was supported by five interview questions. The Stevick-Colaizii-Keen method that Moustakas (1994) modified was selected to guide data analysis. A textual-structural description of the meanings and essences of the experiences was developed. Significance of this study was articulated.
