School counselors today in urban districts are challenged more than ever before to help the nation compete in a global economy. Students attending urban schools often lack college knowledge, possess little postsecondary aspirations due to perceived academic or financial barriers, or may not have access to social networks to assist with their planning (Bell, Rowan-Kenyon, & Pena, 2009).It is pertinent that urban school counselors help students in urban schools to become college and career ready. School counselors working in urban communities are uniquely positioned to support educational equity by ensuring that their students have access to high-quality college readiness counseling. However, some research cites school counselors as part of the problem (Public Agenda, 2010) rather than part of the solution
