Fri, April 5, 4:20 to 5:50pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

This study examines the impact of a comprehensive, research-driven educator effectiveness model, TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement, on student achievement in Louisiana. Designed to improve teacher practices and raise student achievement, the TAP System provides teachers with opportunities for career advancement, job-embedded professional development, a rigorous and fair performance evaluation system, and performance-based compensation. The current study employs a quasi-experimental design to examine the impact of the TAP System on student achievement in K-8 schools in Louisiana. Findings show a positive and significant impact of TAP on student achievement at Year 3. Additionally, the effect sizes of student achievement growth in TAP schools were twice the size of those for student achievement growth in matched schools.
