Abstract

This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates the results from and use of the 1995 Draw-A-Scientist Checklist (DAST-C). Articles published between 2003-2018 that assess students’ perceptions of scientists were included in the present study, resulting in n = 30 studies. Mean results across articles are presented to frame current student stereotypes of scientists, and concerns around misuse of the DAST-C and a need for updates are also discussed. Recommendations are presented for possible revisions to the checklist to capture modern scientist stereotypes and culturally bound perceptions of scientists.
