Few studies examine changes in non-cognitive factors during adolescence. This study focuses on the psychometric properties and measurement of change in non-cognitive factors among adolescents by examining twelve repeatedly asked survey questions on the first three waves of the National Longitudinal Adolescent Health Survey (Add Health) that tap into three dimensions; self-esteem, sense of belonging, and academic behaviors. Confirmatory Factor Analysis is used to analyze the factor structure of the twelve survey items for each wave of the survey and Latent Growth Curve modeling is used to estimate the growth of non-cognitive factors during adolescence. Socio economic status-based differences in the growth trajectory is also explored.
