The Revolution Will Not Be Standardized

Abstract

What the Black Panther Party’s Program and Platform have represented for decades remain a point of contention, an ongoing debate, and interminable argument. The nationalist group’s image has been used to promote violence and perpetuate the myth of the cop-killing street gang. This theoretical paper attempts to showcase the Party’s efforts to address and solve the problems of generational oppression in the Black community in Oakland and other cities in California during the 1960s and 1970s. The Party’s use of critical pedagogy was documented at its Liberation Schools and its flagship institution Oakland Community School, thereby creating the blueprint for social justice education.
