Evaluating preservice teachers’ self-perceived readiness to teach is important for understanding preparedness to instruct in an actual classroom environment. The purpose of this study was to develop a general measure of preservice teacher self-perceived readiness. A 40-item measure (i.e., the “Teacher Readiness Scale” [TRS]) was developed and administered to preservice teachers (N = 127) in the United States (US) and Turkey. The component structure, psychometric properties, and category structure were examined using Rasch Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Rasch Analysis. The results indicated that the final version of the TRS, which includes 16 items, contains two underlying contrasts called “Instructional Competencies” and “Interprofessional Relations.” The TRS can be used to reliably measure preservice teachers’ self-perceived readiness for classroom teaching.
