Was It Something I Said? Understanding eCoaching in Early Childhood and School-Age Special Education Settings

Mon, April 8, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall G

Abstract

This paper will share preliminary data from a larger study of a multi-faceted intervention for special educators that includes eCoaching and video-based reflective practice. We will unpack the practice of eCoaching by analyzing the frequency, types, and patterns of eCoaching statements used by two faculty coaches for six participants preparing to be early childhood special educators or school-age special educators. Discussing the nuances of eCoaching implementation will support the broader need for the field to carefully look at the feasibility and readiness of classroom teachers to respond to these types of coaching supports and the sustainability of faculty in preparation programs to deliver them effectively.
