This national, longitudinal study uses paired responses from surveys to examine the extent to which interracial roommate pairings predict positive cross-racial interactions amongst students living in residence halls/first-year housing. In doing so, it specifically studies the ways in which students’ racial/ethnic background moderates any association between roommate pairing and cross-racial interactions. The study also examines additional variables that influence positive cross-racial interactions in the first year of college.
