Post-Truth Relationship Troubles: Can Perceptions of Stakeholders Challenge a Community College/University STEM Teacher Transfer Pipeline?

Sun, April 7, 11:50am to 1:20pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall G

Abstract

This constructivist grounded theory inquiry asked what factors impede or foster the success of community college / private university STEM teacher transfer pipelines and how do the perceptions and motivations of related stakeholders impact the success of the partnership? We applied Partnership Capital Model and sociocultural theory to shape our thinking. Sources of data were coded and initial themes constructed. Data included surveys, semi structured interviews, artifacts, and data collected from focus group and small group dialogues. Preliminary findings identified challenges to partnerships including relationships, mechanisms, and fit. Individual perceptions of partners trumped empirical evidence. This work will provide valuable insights for others planning or implementing similar partnerships and to fill gaps in the research on content-specific transfer partnerships.
