Planning for Uncertainty: The Role of Educational Leadership in Rural Community Vitality

Mon, April 8, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

As rural economies across the nation shift away from manufacturing, youth and adults wishing to remain in rural places face an uncertain work future which requires the ability to adapt and innovate over the course of their lifespan. This study examines the changing economic and educational needs of three natural-resource based rural communities to examine mechanisms for leaders within these communities to better leverage schools to promote the alignment between education and local workforce needs in ways that enhance local community vitality.
