Teachers' Value Belief Profiles: Antecedents and Associations With Technology Integration Practices

Abstract

Teachers’ value beliefs are important to successful technology integration. However, a more nuanced perspective is needed on how combinations of value beliefs may lead to distinct integration behaviors. The purpose of this study was to examine whether profiles of teachers’ technology-related value beliefs exist, the antecedents of profile membership, and how value belief profiles influence technology use practices. Using Latent Profile Analysis, we identified five profiles. Perceived cost was found to play an important role in differentiating technology-related value beliefs profiles. With hierarchical linear modeling, we found salient antecedents of value profile membership, and discovered that value profiles appeared to be more salient in predicting how much teachers use technology for more central tasks in the classroom.
