Sun, April 7, 9:55 to 11:25am, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Lower Concourse, Grand Centre

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a systematic understanding of the status of arts education at the 3,912 International Baccalaureate World Schools offering the IB Diploma Program. While the arts are an integral part of the IB program model, arts courses remain optional for IB Diploma students. The study includes a comprehensive profile of the availability of IB arts courses in visual art, dance, film, music, and theatre at IB World Schools globally, a demographic profile of IB students who elect IB arts courses, and an analysis of the climate for the arts at IB schools. Data sources include seven years' of IB administrative data on 725,582 IB students worldwide and a new survey of IB School Coordinators.
