Poster #43 - Teacher Educators' Perspective on Diversity: Tensions Over Class and Ethnic Issues

Abstract

This research shows the positioning of teacher educators in Chile face diversity and identity markers: class and ethnicity in the educational context. The aim is to find out how they understand the complexities of diversity and the difficulties originated in the education system and society. A qualitative approach was conducted, and interviews and projective technique were applied in five universities in Chile and three regions of the country. Results show that, neutral and descriptive positions predominate among teacher educators class and ethnicity essentialist positions predetermine student outcomes. This research provides insight into the understanding of diversity among teacher educators, which needs to be made more complex if we desire a fair and equitable educational.
