Conversations in Action Research: Impacts on Teacher/Student Identity and Practice

Sun, April 7, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall G

Abstract

Current neo-liberal hegemonies have de-professionalized teaching; yet, there is a relatively small, but thriving counter-narrative of teachers engaged in action research in groups and networks across the country, working against this tide. This paper explores the work of such educators as represented in an action research edited book. We offer one in-depth example of a practitioner researcher; whose cyclical research focuses on her practice implementing an arts-based pedagogy in an early pre-service education program for high school seniors interested in teaching. By engaging herself and students in continual action research via the arts, the teacher/researcher created a space for all to critically think through salient problems of practice.
