Mapping Teacher Turnover in Texas Public School Districts: A Longitudinal Analysis

Abstract

During the past two decades, a small but increasing numbers of scholars have highlighted the importance of spatial analysis in educational field. One of the research concerns in the field of teacher turnover is the extent to which we take account of geographical or spatial influences relating to the stability of teaching force. In this study the author adopts a relatively new technique (GIS methods) to examine the longitudinal effects of local community characteristics on teacher turnover for Texas school districts between 2005 and 2016. Shifting from characteristics of teachers and their schools to geographical effects, this study sets out to assess how changes in social environment are related to the changes in teacher turnover pattern over an 11-year period.
