Transitions During Turbulent Times: Student Activism and Protests as Liberatory Acts in a "Post-Truth" Era

Abstract

In the era of hashtag activism, student activists on several college campuses across the country have demonstrated their ability to resist and remain “woke” at settler-colonizing institutions. Irrespective of the cause or its magnitude (e.g., culturally responsive support system, and increases in students, faculty and staff of color), student activists have tapped into their unique ability to intentionally create transitions at an individual level (student) and at an institutional and systemic level (institution/organization). Relying upon de/colonizing and indigenous onto-epistemologies, this study employs qualitative methods to examine the transitions that students and college campuses experience during turbulent times.
