Facilitating Case Learning in "Post-Truth" Times

Abstract

During case-based instruction (CBI), discussion represents an important part of the learning process. However, effective discussions are not guaranteed in CBI, as a skillful facilitator must help shape the discourse so that specific learning goals might be achieved. This analysis considers the results of four related studies that consider the role of facilitation during the case learning process. Specifically, these results are examined using a “post-truth” lens, reflective of aspects of contemporary life. Discussion focuses on future directions necessary for facilitating CBI in ways that might overcome post-truth concerns.
