This multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary proposal provides space for reflection and dialogue building scholarship around the practice of assessing student learning in higher education. The presenters seek to better understand the state of learning outcomes assessment in the US, involving deep reflection on assessment definitions and typologies of approaches to engaging in assessment. The presenters provide theoretically grounded models to contribute to literature on assessing student learning. This approach is counter to research trends in assessment which focus upon case studies from different types of institutions with little collective learning compiled to inform theory development.
