Situated Learning: Systemic Analysis and Collaborative Action With Urban Youth

Tue, April 9, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

Examining the curriculum and teaching approaches in a youth-led participatory action research (PAR), this study examines the process through which youth participants developed a proposal for productive change in their local community and presented it to community decision-makers. The study explores the ways in which the curriculum and pedagogy engaged a pedagogy of praxis. The discussion examines the ways in which a pedagogy of praxis increased critical analysis skills, situated learning in young people’s lived experiences and applied learning to an action plan for community change.
