Poster #7 - Expressing Care Through the Lens of Black Male School Administrators

Tue, April 9, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

This proposed study aims to address the leadership of African-American male leaders and their operationalization of care in their practice, by analyzing the educational leadership of African-American men through an ethic of care lens. Such a lens is appropriate because, although the literature shows that caring practices are effective in raising levels of achievement in African-American and other disenfranchised populations (Delpit, 2006; Noddings, 1984; Walker & Snarey, 2004), scant research has examined caring styles from various perspectives, particularly considering Black male school administrators.
