Barracoon: The Story of the Last “Black Cargo” by Zora Neale Hurston (2018) was completed in 1931, but was only published in 2018. From that time to now, race has been theorized in various ways in the U.S. (Murji & Solomos, 2015). Currently, I am contributing to these various race theories a practice account of race, that is, practice of race theory (PRT) (Author, in press). PRT has already been used in a multiple case dissertation study of literacy instruction (Author, unpublished). I now turn to an historical case study of race practice in the life of Kossula (Cudjo Lewis).
