Clinical Supervision: An Integrative Process for Promoting Culturally Responsive Teaching

Abstract

This theoretical paper proposes that clinical supervision can be a powerful vehicle for promoting culturally responsive teaching, especially when it is aligned with other supervision processes, such as equity audits, professional development, professional learning communities, curriculum development, and action research. The paper will present strategies that can be used by the supervisor to facilitate teacher inquiry, reflection, self-understanding, and self-directed change toward more culturally responsive teaching.
