Career and Technical Education (CTE) has become increasingly popular in American schools and education policy. It has traditionally served the most disadvantaged students and equity is a critical issue. This systematic literature review of trends in CTE research since 2006 helps determine where empirical evidence exists and where new research is necessary. Findings reveal that participation and representation and attainment and achievement outcomes for CTE are the most common topics studied. However, a dearth of national, longitudinal research limits generalizability. Furthermore, the scope of the research was rather limited: most research examined a single state, district, or school. The article concludes with a discussion of possible new directions for research on CTE and equity.
