The Im(Possibilities) of Freirean Dialogue: Contested Moments of Critical Pedagogy

Abstract

This autoethnographic study draws from moments of Freirean dialogue to explore its use of story circle protocol as a path to counternarratives as well as its use as a tool for critical reflection. Additionally, we share some of the possibilities and challenges in using story circle protocol for dialogue creation and how it facilitates critical communication for all engaged. Although our data consists of our dialogue with predominately Latinx college students in our classrooms and our dialogue with one another, we encourage other critical scholars to search for insights of their own among other communities of marginalized students.
