This paper presents an online course design for improving college students’ motivation and self-regulation. The design framework has three foci on Malleability, Online Community, and Environment (MOCE). The preliminary findings based on a sample of 251 students suggest that the design framework were potentially effective to improve college students’ ability belief, interest, and utility value of mastering various online learning strategies. Participants reported more self-regulation behaviors and reduced use of shallow learning strategies over time. Practical implications and further direction is also discussed around the issue of self-regulation intervention for online learners at postsecondary level.
