Rural areas experience many challenges in recruiting, retaining, and providing ongoing professional development for school leaders. This research examined some of the challenges and rewards of providing high quality and specialized leadership development for rural leaders offered through a partnership between a public university and a regional educational service organization in a rural Rocky Mountain region of the United States. Surveys and focus group interviews explored the participants’ perceptions of the learning opportunities and implications of this particular professional learning design on rural principals.
