The Next Generation of Science Standards stress connections between mathematics and science education. Using the 2015 data from Trend in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), this study includes information from both in both mathematics and science teachers, and merged it with student science performance to analyze relationships of class size and teacher attributes across 45 education systems at the eighth grade. The results revealed significant impacts of the class size factor in both mathematics and science on student performance. Another significant factor is the “percent of mathematics teachers with a bachelor degree or above” per education system. These factors jointly explained 46% of the variability in science performance. Interpretations are provided to support understanding of these comparative findings.
